Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, said there is a “narrow path” for the UK and EU to negotiate a post-Brexit trade deal. Talks appeared to have stalled at this last stage with the UK claiming the talks had been “blocked” with time running out. Boris Johnson said it is a “serious situation” and is looking for a compromise from the EU on fisheries. Ursula von der Leyen, said there are still “big differences”. Possibly brinkmanship but 31st December deadline is fast approaching.

US stocks were higher on Thursday on optimism regarding agreement on a new stimulus package and approval for Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine which can begin distribution.
