MARKET VIEW w/e 1st January 2021

UK Stock-Market

  • The UK government extended restrictions to more areas of the UK as coronavirus numbers continue to surge higher but the stock-market ended the holiday shortened week just a little lower. Investors were encouraged that a trade agreement had finally been agreed between the UK and EU and by the approval of a fiscal stimulus package in the US.
  • The NHS is coming under severe strain with the UK registering its largest daily increase in Covid-19 cases over the weekend and further restrictions are expected.
  • Both our Breadth indicator and Momentum Indicator stayed positive this week.

US Stock-Market

  • The US stock-market was higher this week, beginning the week on a strong note with optimism over the rollout of coronavirus vaccines and the sign-off on a $900 billion fiscal stimulus package over the previous weekend by President Trump.
  • Both our Breadth indicator and Momentum Indicator stayed positive this week.
