UK jobs market continues to improve

Data from the Office for National Statistics this morning shows that the UK jobs market continues to recover. The unemployment rate fell to 4.5%, the lowest in a year.

Stocks are down though, following Asian markets lower on inflation fears with energy prices rising strongly and worries that third quarter earnings announcements may disappoint. A number of major US banks are reporting this week.

Concerns over the debt crisis at Chinese property giant Evergrande is also still weighing on global markets.
