Stocks steady ahead of Biden inauguration

UK and European stocks are flat to higher this morning ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration. Biden will become the 46th President of the United States today and his inauguration speech will be the first step in his attempt to bring Americans back together after the recent political and social upheaval.

On Tuesday, Janet Yellen, nominee for Treasury Secretary, gave her backing to the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan that was announced last week and urged the US government to “act big”.

In the UK, data from the ONS showed that inflation doubled in December, climbing to 0.6% from 0.3% in November, but still below the BofE 2% target.
