Stocks lower after disappointing economic data from China

Stock-markets in the UK and Europe have followed Asia lower this morning after data indicated a sharp slowdown in China. Chinese industrial production and retail sales figures both missed forecasts.

Also weighing on sentiment at the start of the week are concerns over rising coronavirus cases globally and possible geopolitical ramifications arising from the surprising speed of collapse of the government in Afghanistan.
