Stocks higher despite chaos in US

This morning congress has certified Joe Biden as President of the United States. This follows dramatic events in the US with Trump supporters storming the Capitol building.

Stock-markets have not been negatively affected so far with US futures trading higher overnight and UK and European stocks higher this morning. Investors are considering the projected Democrat Senate win and the likelihood of further fiscal stimulus.

In Europe and the UK the key focus remains the rising coronavirus cases with more than 60,000 new cases in the UK on Wednesday.
