Stocks higher after Biden inauguration

UK and European stocks are edging higher this morning as investors try and digest what the new Biden administration will mean for markets. In his inaugural speech the new President called on Americans to come together and stated his intention to end the “uncivil war”. Boris Johnson said he looked forward to “strengthening the partnership between our countries.”

Biden will begin work on the $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus package straight away. Investors will be closely monitoring the response from Republicans.

In Europe, the ECB will announce its latest interest rate decision today. No change is expected.
