The U.K. Stock market

  • The U.K. stock market was lower this week and the Pound remained under pressure.
  • Data from the Office for National Statistics set off recession fears showing that the UK economy contracted in the second quarter for the first time since 2012.
  • Ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China didn’t help.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed negative and our Momentum indicator ticked lower again.

The U.S. Stock market

  • Trade tensions between the U.S. and China were once again the main focus for investors this week.
  • On Monday Chinese authorities let their currency fall below 7 U.S. dollars, for the first time since 2008.
  • The U.S. responded by calling China a “currency manipulator” raising fears that the trade war could develop into a currency war. China has confirmed that the move was in response to further import tariffs imposed by the U.S. but added it will not engage in a competitive devaluation.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed negative this week and our Momentum indicator ticked down again.
