The U.K. Stockmarket

  • The U.K. stock market was higher this week.
  • The UK is due to leave the EU on April 12th but has asked for another delay until 30th June. EU President, Donald Tusk, favours a longer extension, possibly up to a year, with a flexible option of cutting this short if the UK Parliament approves a deal. However, all EU leaders must agree with this proposition before it can be put in place. By Friday Sterling had given back almost all the gains it made earlier in the week and gilts fell.
  • Elsewhere there were positives with encouraging economic data from both the U.S. and China and increased optimism over the possibility of a trade deal between the two countries.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.
