The U.K. Stockmarket

  • The U.K. stock market was slightly lower this week.
  • The Pound fell – down to a ten week low against the US Dollar on news that talks between Theresa May and opposition leaders were not going well.
  • The latest CBI quarterly survey showed that UK factories were stockpiling at the fastest rate for fifty years with the ongoing uncertainty over Brexit.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.

The U.S. Stock market

  • The U.S. stock market was higher this week.
  • The Technology sector and Small-cap stocks outperformed in a week that saw some strong quarterly earnings reports (including Microsoft) and better-than-expected GDP data (despite recent trade tensions and a government shut-down).
  • The price of oil was very volatile with real weakness at the end of the week which meant an under-performance for the energy sector this week.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.
