The U.K. Stockmarket

  • The U.K. stock market was lower this week. Late in the week the EU agreed to give the UK more time to organise Brexit. Donald Tusk, EU Council President said “all options remain on the table”.
  • Sterling rallied back but the U.K. stock market fell with other global markets as weak German manufacturing data refocused investors on worries over global growth. Due to the uncertain situation with Brexit, the BoE left interest rates unchanged at 0.75%.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.

The U.S. Stock market

  • As widely expected, the Fed kept interest rates unchanged and the majority of Fed officials now expect no further rate increases this year.
  • The market was higher Monday through Thursday but Friday saw a sell-off as data showed more evidence of a weakening global economy (German manufacturing PMI fell to a six year low).
  • US PMI data also disappointed.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.
