The U.K. Stockmarket

  • The U.K.Stockmarket was slightly higher this week.
  • UK retail sales data showed sales rose unexpectedly in March despite the lowest measurement of consumer confidence since 2013.
  • Positive economic data from China also helped as did better-than-expected U.S. data.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.

The U.S. Stock market

  • The Volatility index VIX reached an eight-month low in a relatively quiet, holiday-shortened week despite major quarterly earnings reports being released.
  • Economic data releases included retail sales and jobless claims and both came in better than expected.
  • There were further reports that the U.S. and China are close to finalising a trade deal.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator also stayed positive this week.
