Vaccine rollout and US impeachment vote in focus

UK and European stocks are flat this morning. Investors are monitoring developments as coronavirus vaccines are being rolled out globally. Matt Hancock, UK Health Secretary, told Sky News this morning that the UK is ‘on track’ to vaccinate the most vulnerable by the middle of next month. In Europe tighter restrictions have been imposed in several countries with lockdowns extended in Germany and Netherlands..

In the US, Vice-President Mike Pence has made it clear he will not be invoking the 25th amendment to remove Donald Trump from office. House Democrats will vote today to impeach the President for the second time. Trump said the attempts to impeach him for inciting an insurrection were “absolutely ridiculous” denying responsibility for the assault on the Capitol last week.
