Stocks lower on global growth concerns

Stocks in the UK and Europe are down this morning following Asian markets and US futures lower. Concerns over economic growth in China was responsible for the sell-off in Asia.

In the US investors have been digesting Minutes from the US Federal Reserve’s June meeting released yesterday. The Minutes appeared to show division among officials with some anticipating the criteria to begin tapering the asset purchase program would be met earlier than originally expected.

Today, the European Central Bank will announce the results of its strategy review and is expected to revise its inflation goal to 2%. This would would make it easier to keep loose monetary policy in place for longer.

Investors will also be keenly watching for the latest US jobless claims numbers released later today.
