Stocks bounce a little after CPI data

Stocks in the UK and Europe are trading a little higher this morning after heavy falls on Tuesday. Sentiment was helped this morning after UK CPI data came in slightly lower than expected.

The ongoing surge in global coronavirus cases and renewed concerns over economic growth set the markets back sharply yesterday. Last week the World Health Organisation warned that the rate of infection was approaching its highest rate ever with new cases per week doubling over the last two months.

US stock index futures stabilised overnight despite Netflix falling 9% after it reported lower-than-expected earnings after the NYSE close.
