The U.K. Stockmarket

  • The UK Stock market was higher this week.
  • Data from the ONS showed that retail sales jumped last month. MPs voted against a motion endorsing the government’s strategy over Brexit.
  • Globally, investors are hoping that trade talks between the U.S. and China, which are continuing next week, will resolve with a deal. Data showed Europe’s economy is continuing to slow but Chinese exports rose more than expected.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive and our Momentum indicator, although still negative, ticked higher again.

The U.S. Stock market

  • The U.S. stock market was higher this week.
  • Investors are becoming increasingly optimistic that the U.S. and China will reach a trade deal before the U.S. is due to raise tariffs on March 1st. Either that, or they believe President Trump will extend the deadline if a deal looks close.
  • Investor sentiment was tempered though by economic data with initial jobless claims now trending higher.
  • Our Breadth indicator stayed positive this week and our Momentum indicator (although still negative) ticked higher again.
