Stocks in the UK and Europe are lower this morning following last week’s strong gains. This week investors will be weighing the accelerating number of coronavirus cases with US President-elect Joe Biden’s promise on Friday of “trillions of dollars” in further economic stimulus. Investors are hoping that a Democrat-controlled government will push this through quickly.
In the UK, the government are said to be considering tougher lockdown restrictions even as the vaccination program is rolled out.
In the US, President Trump faces the possibility of impeachment for the second time. House speaker Nancy Pelosi will begin the procedure if US vice-president Mike Pence does not invoke the 25th amendment and remove Trump from office this week.
